New Year's was awesome, for a change. I went out for a late lunch with a friend and proceeded to get rather too drunk then got home and passed out before midnight. Woke up around 7 and went to another friend's afterparty where i DJed for a few hours, which was heaps of fun. I've been doing Beatport runs about twice a month for the last 4-5 months, so i had lots of new music to play. It's nice to play for other people because you get to share stuff they might not've heard otherwise - it was a real buzz when one of my working DJ friends jumped up to find out what track i had just played. Maybe this year i'll focus a bit harder on it and see if i can get some gigs. We'll see.
I also reunited with a bunch of friends from New Year's 97/98 via FB. They were throwing a reunion party down in Brissy, and it was a real blast from the past to see all the pictures and comments from the gig. Most of them are all settled with kids now, so while there were only a handful of kids at the party back then, this year they had a dedicated kids space with face painting and costumes and whatnot. Not sure i'd be able to handle a party with that many kids in tow, but if it means old/boring types can actually come out and enjoy themselves properly then it's gotta be a good thing. It was always a running joke they'd be playing techno in the old folks' homes when we got to that age, now it's less of a joke and more of a certainty. Guess we didn't all OD or die of liver disease by 50 after all.
Made a list of Stuff To Do for 2013 too. The owners of my building are continuing to be total cunts by refusing to let me have my own lease despite me earning almost six figures. This is causing J's dad (who is my guarantor) to keep the second set of keys to the apartment, which is technically illegal, though i have no desire to fight the war on two fronts. Also, my rent will be going up significantly at the end of this first year because they are replacing the balconies, which is a bunch of bullshit because it's leaving the balconies unusable for months, there's constant construction noise, and they still haven't fixed the dodgy plumbing. All this is made all the more frustrating by the fact that aside from one noise complaint, i have neighbors who keep to themselves, there's lots of space, and my super is awesome. I want to move out at the end of the lease just to spite the owners, but i don't want to pay movers just to relocate to a shittier apartment in Toronto for another 12 months when i have no reason to stay here. So my Stuff To Do list involves getting everything ready to fuck off to Europe.
Other than that, not much going on. Yeah go me.
